This is one of the easiest dust collectors to make and one that keeps the sawdust out of your shop vacuum cleaner. Super cheap to make and saves you money. Parts are easy to find. Prevents your filter from clogging prematurely in your shop vac. Separates the dust and debris with simple cyclone action. No fancy baffles. Plain, simple and practical. I made another version for WATER using just one pail ! …..https://youtu.be/qr4shF-oOzg
NOTE: Some have said static could be an issue. When I tested this, it was on concrete and static was not an issue for me. If you are building yours on a wood stand, you may want to add a ground wire.

PARTS and TOOLS to make:

NOTE……CANADA uses black ABS and US uses white PVC . Both work.

  1. this song gives me future nostalgia of when good things will ha[ppen but its also a good emotional song that gives off different emotions. – demonia

  2. I followed these instructions and now have an awesome dust collection system. A couple of notes –

    1. I used 2 similar buckets I had lying around and they worked great.
    2. I had to take the knife around the edge closer to 20 times.
    3. I just used a hole saw to punch the holes in the bucket and then I used some sealant to make them air tight,
    4. If you are using 2.5" shop vac hoses they actually slide right over the pvc couplings. No need for the rubber caps, however, I did put a hose clamp on them so they are super secure.

Otherwise, these instructions are fantastic and I love my system.

  3. After three years of doing woodworking in my garage, I finally got fed up with all of the sawdust making everything extremely dirty. After watching your video yesterday I went out and got the parts and assembled everything in about 20 minutes. I’m one happy customer.

  4. I built this today for an upcoming flooring removal project to remove the thin-set and dust. It does work very well. I started with removing sawdust from the cabinet of my table saw which I have to do occasionally. I used PVC pipe and fittings. If using pressure PVC the short lengths of pipe need to be 2-1/2" because the fittings are deeper. It should be specified to use drain fittings. I found a 1-7/8" Forstner bit to be very close to the right size for the snug fit of the pipe. I forced the first length of pipe and split the bottom of the bucket. I will just seal the crack with some heavy-duty elastomer caulk. I have not completed this yet but I think using a couple of long sweep elbows would put less strain on the hoses and help with the tipping problem. I found a 20-foot length of vacuum hose on HomeDepot.com for about $25. This was less expensive than Amazon but is not stocked in stores. The first time fitting the buckets together is tough but once you get it the first time, it gets easier.
