A quick little live edge bowl from some English Yew. Mostly Push cuts and some nice slow motion shots as always! 2:35 for the oops moment! I guess the bowl turned out a little shallower in the end, but I had noticed this check through the blank, and half expected it! Thankfully it flew off kindly! no holes in the roof that day! 😂

Union Graduate Lathe and Henry Taylor Diamic chisels.

Today we’re taking an old file and making two carbon steel lathe tools! I’m making a roundnose and a square edged scraper because theses are two tools I’ve never had despite having been turning wood since I was just a kid. There’s alot to cover in this video, we start with grinding the teeth off the file, then we head over to the forge where we do some blacksmithing before using my home made kiln to do the heat treatment. Next, we spin over to the lathe where we turn the walnut and cedar handles before finishing up the blades and putting it all together!

Be sure to check out my follow-up video when we get to see just how well these tools perform on a piece of Manitoba Maple I harvested a few years ago!
