Hello again everyone. I am finally back with part 1 of my multi-part series covering my shop move. In this series I will be documenting the entire process from start to ending in a new shop tour. In part 1, this video, I will be walking you all through the very detailed planning that I went through to develop the final layout of the new shop. I will discuss some of the considerations while visiting the home, how I will tackle electrical, dust collection, and over all layout.

If there is any specific information on any of these that you would like to see in later parts of the series, feel free to leave those ideas in the comments section below. I will do my best to address any of those in the later videos.

I mentioned my friend Matthew in the video and the amazing assembly table that he made and I will be using for the design of my own. If you want to take a look, click on the link to his Instagram page below.

Let me know what you think in the comments section below. If you have any questions you can also leave them below or you can head over to Instagram and follow me there and shoot me a DM. I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have about this video or anything else.

  1. Great video. I've used Sketchup before but definitely not an expert. Where did all of the objects come from like the drill press, table saw, CNC etc? Did you or your buddy make those or did you find a download somewhere?

  2. not enough outlets… I hope you tripled the number of outlets you installed in your shop before installing drywall.

  3. Just came across this video and I am wondering why your table saw outfeed is on the wifes care side of the garage instead of towards the assembly table. That is a lot of walking with with your cut ups to the table. No one else asked this, so what am i missing?

  4. What are the dimensions of your shop? Planning on building a shouse in a couple of years and need to plan everything out in advance so trying to get ideas on size and layout.

  5. Really awesome and fun to be able to start from scratch. I am a new woodworker building my garage shop. Not as many tools nor do I have your talent, but it is interesting how after I make a change in set up I recognize something else I want to change.

  6. Really enjoyed the video, how come you aren’t making more of your tools mobile? I’m guessing do to the power and dust collection needs? I also have a three car garage but have more nonshop related stuff in the garage I have to store. So with my great weather here I utilize the driveway a lot more and can move most of my more messy tools outside since I currently don’t have a dust collection system.

  7. is using metal ductwork much more expensive than PVC and why is metal better? I'm getting ready to add a dust collection system and have to go the frugal route as in Harbor Freight.

  8. Yeah Jason, I know what you mean about Sketchup lol. I tried to learn it 😤 So I found that April Wilkerson had a two part tutorial on it and tried that 😤😤😤 so needless to say, I went back to my pad, ruler n pencil 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  9. Congrats on your new shop! You might want to give some serious consideration to painting the floor with that epoxy floor coating with the color flakes in it. It will make cleanup, and keeping it clean, much easier. Plus it looks awesome.

  10. Looks like your getting it together. I'll be watching the progress unfold. I do have one question. Did you move your shop stuff on your orders or ship it separately and if on the orders did you come in under weight? On one of my moves I was allotted 18K lbs. The driver told me at destination that I was over but he helped me out and showed I came in around 17,600. Helped save some $$$. Good luck on the set up.

  11. Good luck there. I have just bought a place with 3 garages. But I have a wall separating single from double with inter leading door. Gonna have to plan this properly as I will be doing woodworking and Metal working.

  12. I had the same problem with garage door opener being in my way my neighbor suggested a lift master opener you can place rails closer to ceiling and eliminate the track opener
