In this video I walk you through the steps on how to make a Rustic Wooden Australian Flag. This DIY flag is made using painters grade wooden panels. All surfaces are scorched with a Benxomatic torch for a rustic look. I score the design of the flag to minimize bleeding from the Minwax water-based stain. I usually do 2-3 coats of stain for these flags and then a final coat of spray polyurethane. This particular flag was shipped to a customer in Michigan but I have made several of these over the past few months. Wooden flags are a great way to make money woodworking.

  1. Looks great, mate. I assume you sent out to an Aussie living in Michigan?
Do you find that using one whole board is prone to warping at all? I've seen lots of USA flags made where each stripe is another strip of wood. Would it create a better product to do the same with this?

  2. Really nice paint job! Do you find this painting method gives better results that if you just leave down the painters tape as a guide? That's how I've done it in the past and was just curious, thanks!
