The tool rest on the Treadle Grinder is ready for testing. My first part that I want to grind is the blade on the Stanley No. 8 plane.

  1. Your setup looks to work great for straight edged blades (for joiner & smoothing planes), but what do you do for a beveled blade (like most jack planes)? I can imagine how to make a jig to produce perfect 8" radii, but have you ever made one? Or do you free hand those?

  2. I heard your clock ticking and had to look to be sure it wasn't mine. You need a banana seat with a sissy bar and a set of ape hangers! THEN you could hone with the best of them. Leaves done in the back yard, the worst is over. Foot looking GOOD! P.O. this week!

  3. YOU NEED TO MOVE YOUR SEAT BACK ON YOUR GRINDER AND PUT A PAD AND MAYBE A HEATER FOR THOSE COLD DAYS WE ARE NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER…..

  4. ..at 9:00, this seat is a real pain, funny!! What about putting a piece of angle or flat bar on the table to extend it??
here's a question- Using a wheel grinder- Do you feel that they put a sort of convex on the blade. Somewhat like a straight razor has?? If so, how does this effect the cutting edge and keeping the blade sharp along with how often it will need to be sharpened again?? Yeah i know, it sounds like a question at a White House press corps briefing…!!

  5. Nice job looks like it's going to be a winner but then that's the fun in it. Back to the sows ears trial and error making rubbish top notch or as best as possible.i have a saying " Nothing is impossible with the right attitude and the right size hammer" as a thought on the seat arrangement could you get a old bicycle frame cut the rear stem off it and use the saddle and seat so it will adjust to your specifications the where the rear wheel would sit a bar to add crossways to add stability just a thought your the master my friend

  6. Beautyful work! I‘m impressed! I have one question, could you tell me how old is my Stanley Plane? I can send you some Fotos. Thx and keep it going!
